Shopify Scripts stopped running. Here's what broke

Shopify Scripts stopped running on June 30, 2026. They didn't throw errors or block checkout. They just silently stopped applying. If your store had custom discount, shipping or payment logic in Scripts and you haven't migrated, that logic has been switched off for more than two months.

This was the third deadline. Shopify first set August 2024, pushed it to August 2025, then to June 30, 2026, and has confirmed there won't be a fourth. Merchants also lost the ability to create or edit Scripts on April 15, 2026, which matters more than it sounds. If whoever wrote your Script has left, you can no longer open the code to see what it did.

What broke?

Nothing you'd notice, and that's the problem. Scripts ran on Shopify Plus checkouts to change line items, shipping rates and payment options. When they stopped, checkout kept working perfectly, just without any of the rules.

Shopify Scripts was extended twice, in August 2024 and August 2025, before editing was disabled on April 15, 2026, and execution stopped on June 30, 2026.
Two extensions, then a hard stop.

The damage is invisible, and it's expensive. Tiered pricing stops working, so a wholesale customer ordering 500 units pays the retail price. Automatic cart discounts stop applying, so a promotion you're still advertising doesn't come off at checkout. Free shipping thresholds stop kicking in, so customers who qualified get charged anyway. Payment gating stops working too, so a payment method you'd hidden from certain customers shows up again.

Every one of those results in a completed order at the wrong price, and nothing gets written to an error log.

How do I tell whether this affected me?

Scripts were only available on Plus, so if you've never been on Plus, you can stop reading. If you are on Plus, check the Script Editor app in your admin. It still lists what you had, even though you can't edit any of it.

Four kinds of Script logic stopped applying silently: tiered pricing, cart discounts, free shipping thresholds and payment gating.
Four rules that stopped applying without warning.

The quicker way to tell is your own data. Compare average order value and discount totals for July and August with May and June. A discount Script that stopped working shows up as discounts dropping off a cliff on July 1 while order volume stays flat. A shipping Script shows the same pattern in shipping revenue, just in the opposite direction.

If you sell B2B or wholesale through Plus, check a real customer account against the price list they're supposed to get. That's where we've found the biggest losses, because the gap on each order is largest and nobody notices for months.

Can I recover the money?

Some of it. Money lost on orders that undercharged is gone unless you're willing to invoice customers after the fact, and for most brands that costs more goodwill than it brings back. The orders to act on are the ones that overcharged, where customers should have gotten a discount and didn't. You can refund those, and reaching out first is far better than dealing with a chargeback.

When a discount Script stopped executing, order volume continued unchanged while discount totals fell to near zero from July 1.
The signature is a discount line that flatlines while orders do not.

Pull orders from July 1 onward, filter to the customers the Script covered, and work out what the price should have been. It's tedious, but it isn't hard.

What do I do now?

Rebuild the logic in Shopify Functions. Functions are the replacement. They run server-side at checkout, and unlike Scripts, they work on every plan, not just Plus. Our guide to migrating Scripts to Functions covers how to do it without the original code.

Don't treat it as a line-by-line copy. Two months without the rules is a decent audit in itself, since some Scripts were written for a promotion that ended back in 2023 and nobody ever removed them. Before you rebuild, work out which rules the business still needs. We've migrated stores where four out of eleven Scripts turned out to be obsolete.

Prioritize the rebuild by what each rule is costing you per day. Do wholesale and B2B pricing first, because the gap on each order is biggest. Then anything customer-facing that you're still advertising, since right now that's a promise you're breaking. Cosmetic rules can wait until last.

How urgent is this really?

If you had wholesale pricing in Scripts, this is the most urgent thing on your list, because every day means another batch of orders at the wrong price. If your Scripts only handled a seasonal promotion that isn't running right now, you can plan it properly.

The one thing you shouldn't do is wait for Shopify to extend the deadline again. It already did that twice, said this one was final, and has now let the date pass. There's nothing left to wait for.

If you're on Plus and aren't sure what your Scripts did, we can audit the gap from your order data without touching the store. It usually takes a day. Rebuilding the rules afterward is part of our Shopify development work.
